2009 NEW YEAR'S MESSAGE
A big thank you to all who managed to come along last year and also
to those who replied to the questionnaire in the last report. It made
very interesting reading. I have tried to summarise the response to each
question below.
Are you planning to attend at least one event next year?
This was a nice surprise, we still have plenty of loyal Follyists and
I suspect if we ran one of the larger venues next year we might tempt a
few more of you.
Would you be interested in a two day event, and which circuit?
A few would be interested but most felt they would struggle to get a
leave pass.
What would be your two favourite circuits?
The winner was Donington with Cadwell very close behind. Third place
went to Rockingham and Mallory (a dead heat) with interest also shown in
Castle Combe, Oulton, Brands and Silverstone.
Would you consider participating in the £500er scheme similar to
this year?
For those not familiar with the £500er scheme, what happens is some
people pay a £500 deposit at the beginning of the year and use these
funds to purchase any places on any events for as many people as they
want to (e.g. also pay for a friend). This helps us to cover the circuit
hire deposits at the beginning of the year. In return you get a %10
discount on any places booked using these funds. Any funds not used up
during the season are returned at the end of the year.
Quite a few of you are still interested in doing this. I noted that
some would be swayed if certain circuits were available.
Would going back to cheques and/or bank transfers be a retrograde
step?
It was about 50/50 on this one. If possible we will retain the online
booking system. As with most things managed by banks there is a charge
to retain this facility which does add to our overheads. Half of you
felt it would be much less convenient to go back to the old system.
How many events would you prefer to have in a season?
The numbers ranged from 1 to 10 with the average at around 3 or 4. As
with most things it is time and money that is the limiting
factor. Availability of time was probably the biggest factor.
If you are part of a biking club or organisation would you consider
using the Folly to organise a track day on your behalf or perhaps do a
shared day with the Folly?
We had some interesting ideas put forward and we will be following
these up where possible.
Would you be interested in any Club Folly events, a group of us get
together and book on an event with another Trackday organiser?
Mixed feelings about this, the main concern being that the Folly
atmosphere may not be present.
We are still sorting out the 2009 calendar and will hopefully be
firming up the dates in the New Year. As soon as I know something I will
send out an update.
If anybody needs more information on the £500er scheme you can give
me a call on 07776 223734.
Don’t forget to keep an eye on
the website for
any updates. We will be sending out the usual Spring message with the
final calendar for 2009. We wish you all a
Happy New Year.
Seasons greetings from
Jeff, Jackie, Graham, Ian, Mark, Barbara, Richard, Woody and Roger.
